Knowing the IP address of your printer is very important because it is needed when you want to troubleshoot any problems or connect your printer to your Windows 10 or Mac desktop or laptop. Your printer won’t give any other commands or won’t do any printing jobs if you don’t have your IP address. But, where can you find it? Find the IP Address from your Router

Whether you’re using a personal computer or a Mac, it doesn’t matter. You can easily find the IP address of your printer via a router. Here are the steps.

 1. Open any web browser.

 2. Into the address bar, type the local IP address of your router

 3. To login, enter the password and username of your router.

 4. A list of devices connected to your network will appear once you log in and you will find your printer’s IP address in it. You should take note that depending on the set-up page of your router, the data will be listed in different ways. Make sure to check and look for words, such as a connected device list or network map.

 

Find the IP Address from your Mac

Before looking for the printer’s IP address in your Mac, you have to connect your printer in it first. Here’s how to connect your printer using WPS:

 1. Go to the top-left corner of your screen and look for the Apple icon. Click it.

 2. Choose the Systems Preferences in the drop-down menu.

 3. Select the Printers and Scanners option. If your Mac is an older version, you have to go to the Hardware tab and look for the Print & Scan.

 4. Below the printer’s list, click the + sign to add your printer. If you have an older version of Mac, you have to click the Add Scanner or Add Printer option after clicking the + sign below the list of printers.

In the Add Scanner or Printer submenu, you might also see that your Mac can detect printers around its range, it will be under the Nearby Printers section.

Look at the Lock icon, which is located at the bottom part of your window if you cannot click the + sign. A pop-up will appear and you have to enter your password so the Print & Scan menu can make its new changes.

 5. A list of discoverable printers will appear on the Default tab. Choose and add the printer that you want to connect with your Mac.

 6. In the Use Field section, choose the driver or the software of the printer. Here are the following options that will appear:

  • Printer driver. If you have your own printer driver already installed for your printer.
  • Auto Select. If you want your Mac to download the correct printer automatically and correctly even if you have the print driver, choose this option.
  • This is a printing technology made by Apple that will allow you to print from printers that are AirPrint-compatible. However, you have to install the printer driver from the manufacturer’s website or Apple’s server if you don’t have an AirPrint-compatible printer.
  • Once you’re done with steps 1 to 6, click the Add button. The printer you’ve connected will now be added to the printer’s list, which can be seen on the Print & Scan window, at the left-hand side.

Finding your printer’s IP address on a Mac laptop or desktop is very easy. There are two How-To guides that you can follow, the System Preferences and the Common Unix Printing System (CUPS).

The first one is using the System Preferences method. Here’s the step by step guide.

1. Look for the System Preferences. You can see it by clicking the Apple logo located at the top-left corner of your window. You can also find this in your dock. Select System Preferences in the drop-down menu once you found it.

 2. Go to the Printers and Scanners and click it.

 3. From the left column, select the printer that you’ve connected earlier. All printers installed on your Mac will appear in a list if it happens that you have more than one printer. It will be displayed on the side of the Print & Scan menu.

 4. Under the Location title, you will the IP address of the printer you’ve connected.

The second method is using the CUPs or Common Unix Printing System webpage. Here’s the step by step guide.

 5. Open the Safari app on your Mac.

 6. In the address bar of Safari, type localhost:631/printers

 7. Under the Location title, you will the IP address of the printer you’ve connected.

Connecting your Printer Using IP Address

If you need to connect the printer you’ve connected to other Mac laptops or desktops, all you have to do is to get the printer’s IP address that you’ve found and use it to connect with other Mac devices. Here’s a step by step guide:

1. Look for the Apple icon. Click it.

 2. In the drop-down menu, go to the Systems Preferences.

 3. Select the Printers and Scanners option. If your Mac is an older version, you have to go to the Hardware tab and look for the Print & Scan.

 8. Choose what print driver you want to use by looking for the Use field’s drop-down menu.

 9. Once you’re done, click the Add button. The printer you’ve connected will now be added to the printer’s list, which can be seen on the Print & Scan window, at the left-hand side
